Advice from IR Approved Author Matt Snee: “Be patient. And don’t make snap decisions.”

Love in the Time of America: Received a 4+ star review, making it an IndieReader Approved title.

Following find an interview with author Matt Snee:

1. What is the name of the book and when was it published? “Love in the Time of America” published on 4/21/2026

2. What’s the book’s first line? “It was his Aunt Jessica’s idea — she didn’t want him in her hair all summer long like last year.”

3. What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”. Slim collection of five short stories that examine the cost of love in America from the 1950s to the near future.

4. What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event? Different things… my dad’s stories about camp when he was a kid, bonding with my parents over John Wayne movies, science fiction…

5. What’s the main reason someone should really read this book? I think if a reader gives this book a chance, they will be both touched and surprised.

6. What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character?  Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of? I think all the main characters in these stories are doing their best, not always with positive results. Love is tough enough; society doesn’t help.

7. When did you first decide to become an author? Fourth or fifth grade.

8. Is this the first book you’ve written? No, I’ve written about a dozen.

9. What do you do for work when you’re not writing? I am the primary care giver for my parents.

10. How much time do you generally spend on your writing? It depends… it comes in waves. Sometimes, nothing for months. Then, a big burst.

11. What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie? Book formatting.

12. What’s a great piece of advice that you can share with fellow indie authors? Be patient. And don’t make snap decisions.

13. Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling? If so, why? Probably; I’m sick of formatting books.

14. Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?) I just love literature and creating things.

15. Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire? Probably Gustave Flaubert.

16. Which book do you wish you could have written? The book I’m writing now, which is giving me so much trouble.
