What is the name of the book and when was it published?
OldEarth Melchior Encounter. Publication date October 25, 2021
What’s the book’s first line?
Song, in her petite elven form and dressed in a dark green tunic over grey leggings, strolled along the wooded glen, soft brown soil cushioning each step while pink blossoms waved in a gentle breeze.
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.
Britain in the fifth century was a land torn by war, while Melchior was a man torn by choice. His son is accused of murder, his daughter is forced to marry a brutal king, and his sister is driving him mad, but a prophetic vision saves him from despair.
Threatened by a Mystery Race, the Inter-Alien Alliance Committee decides it must destroy Earth to keep the planet’s resources from falling into the wrong hands. But faithful friends fight for humanity’s right to prove their worth.
What inspired you to write the book?
I wrote OldEarth Melchior Encounter to take the family lineage started in OldEarth Aram Encounter into the medieval age where humanity was developing at a faster rate than ever before. I found the 5th century in Britain a fascinating period, and the idea of a mystery intertwined with the historical sci-fi plot felt fresh and exciting.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
OldEarth Melchior Encounter is a fun read that takes a reader out of the modern world and offers a family and society drama from both a historical perspective and a universal appraisal. How might humanity look from an alien viewpoint? How do we see ourselves generations later? Interesting questions that only the reader can answer.
What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?
There are several main characters, but each, in turn, exemplifies the flaws and merits of the human race, or any cognizant being. Melchior, in particular, reminds me of Abraham Lincoln, a person charged with a huge responsibility in a swirling interplay of personalities who do not get along and often work against their own best interests.
Is this the first book you’ve written?
OldEarth Melchior Encounter is the 5th book on the OldEarth Encounter series. I have also written several non-fiction books focused on my life journey raising a large family as a widow. I also have two short story collections published and a book of poems. All are available through Amazon.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
Being a mother and an educator, I spend a good deal of my day taking care of home, school, and family. We also have more critters than I can count—free additions that join us from the countryside. They love cuddles and chat time, just like everyone else.
What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?
The hardest part of being an indie writer is learning how to manage all the elements of good book production and finding trustworthy experts to help me along the way. The best part is becoming better at the writing craft and working with excellent professionals.
