"My New Years Resolution is to write more words, drink more water, take more naps and have more sex. I figure gluttony in those areas will suit me just fine."

No more snacking between writing chapters?  Working harder on promotion?  Or just trying to relax more between penning bestsellers?

IndieReader reached out to eight New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors and asked them to share their New Year’s resolutions for 2016.  Their answers range from “more sex” (Alessandra Torre) to “Five Tibetan Rites” (Hugh Howey).

Check out all of the responses below and wishing all of you IndieReader’s a happy and healthy New Year!

New Year’s Resolutions are tough. Like most of you, I’m betting I make them and ultimately break them. How demoralizing, right?

I want to go into the new year feeling positive, especially since the last half of 2015 was a little tough. So I resolve to be nicer to myself, to not put such pressure on myself that I don’t feel well. I resolve to be happier about the way things ARE instead of trying so hard to change things (like, when I say “I resolve to lose weight” and it doesn’t happen). But I also resolve to be healthier in my eating and to try to go to the gym. “Try” is more important than “I will”.  I no longer want to set myself up for disappointment.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all! 🙂

In the wake of the Paris attacks and the San Bernardino, CA shootings, I want to focus my New Year’s Resolution on PEACE. I intend to extend peace to each and every person I meet throughout 2016. I plan to pray for peace, to wish for peace, to hope for peace. The people of Earth must find a way to live together on this planet. Desmond Tutu said, “Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”

I will do my little bit of good, and I hope everyone will do their little bit of good, so that we might overwhelm this world with peace, compassion, and love.

EL Bitten1EVE LANGLAIS

I resolve in 2016 to reduce my work week from seven to five days. I will take more time for myself and learn how to relax. I will write the most awesome story ever! And I really need to exercise more and eat better.

The reality? I will continue to work crazy hours forcing my husband to drag me from the desk–luring me with bacon if I protest too much. I will spend my free time reading about work. LOL. As for exercise, do the snacks I like to lift to my mouth while I type count?  But, maybe, just maybe, I can write a few good stories to make you smile. Happy New Year!

Eve Langlais is a New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author who loves to write entertaining romance that features either hunky shapeshifters, cyborgs or sexy aliens. Eve is a Canadian author, currently living in Ottawa, Canada with her hubby of 16 years and three children. When it comes to stories, she is known for her knack of blending humor into romance, and allowing her vivid imagination to run wild. She is a big believer in laughter when it comes to falling in love. Eve is a hybrid published author with over 70 titles available to tickle your happy reading spot. Happy reading,  You can read more about Eve at http://www.evelanglais.com.

My New Year’s Resolution: 1,830 Tibetan Rites

Last January, I spent a week on a friend’s sailboat, and he casually introduced me to his morning workout routine. Known as the Five Tibetan Rites, these simple yoga-like exercises seem benign at first, but my friend assured me that daily practice would transform my health. He was absolutely right.

Issues with my back and shoulder that have plagued me for years have gone away, and the first rite, which seems silly at first, has vastly improved my balance. At the age of 40, I’m in better shape than I was when I was twenty. And like with writing, I’ve learned that daily doses are better than binge sessions. This year, I plan on not missing a single day.

Many of us make exercise and diet promises and then give up due to time pressures. The beauty of the Five Tibetan Rites is that they can be performed in roughly ten minutes. For my variations, check out these videos.

Hugh Howey is The New York Times bestselling author of Wool, Sand, and Beacon 23. He currently lives on a sailboat that he is taking around the world.

I feel like I’ve made the same resolution for at least ten years, which is to get into a better yoga practice. Between writing and work and being a mom, I’m pulled in a hundred different directions every day. I hope this year I can justify a little more zen time for myself. I’m also hoping to plan a few getaways with my husband to unwind and recharge!

Meredith Wild is a #1 New York Times, USA Today, and international bestselling author of romance. Living on Florida’s Gulf Coast with her husband and three children, she refers to herself as a techie, whiskey-appreciator, and hopeless romantic. When she isn’t living in the fantasy world of her characters, she can usually be found at www.facebook.com/meredithwild. Into the Fire, the highly anticipated sequel in the Bridge Series, will release June 21, 2016.

My new years resolution is simple….create a way to slow time so that I can release more books! Really, this is something that I feel like every author and reader would appreciate! Time is a commodity, it’s the one thing we always want more of. My goal this next year is to put out more books but also make sure that I’m taking that time to really marinate in the characters and who they are as people and how they can relate to my readers. As I’m typing this I’m like, yeah people who aren’t readers are going to think I’m a freak, BUT, I think especially with the current state of the world, it’s so important to provide not just entertainment, but a legitimate escape so that people can relax and have something to look forward to. I hope I do that with my books and I hope this year I’m able to accomplish that 😉

Rachel Van Dyken is the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today Bestselling author of regency and contemporary romances. When she’s not writing you can find her drinking coffee at Starbucks and plotting her next book while watching The Bachelor. She keeps her home in Idaho with her Husband, adorable son, and two snoring boxers! She loves to hear from readers! Want to be kept up to date on new releases? Text MAFIA to 66866! I couldn’t be more excited for the year ahead. I know that there’s still room to grow no matter how old I get. Resolutions are a terrific way of giving myself an extra nudge in the right direction so I wrote down seven that I plan on following through with.

My first New Year’s resolution is to write two novels in 2016: one mystery and one literary work of fiction. My second resolution is to re-read more classics. I’m inspired by the works of the imagination that endure through generations of readers. What is it about them that keeps us coming back to their pages over and over again? Contemporary novels have enormous value in our society as well, which leads me to my third New Year’s resolution: to read more of them in 2016. New voices offer new perspectives. I never stop learning; life would be too dull if I did.

My fourth resolution for the new year is to be available for mentoring young writers. All of my experiences could be helpful to someone else who is just starting out. Another one of my resolutions is to show interest in why other people write. I was inspired to create Writers of the World because I saw how much burgeoning writers would benefit from a platform where their voices and life stories could be heard. My sixth resolution is to encourage older people to write works of the imagination. It strengthens our minds and souls. It relieves tension and teaches us new things about ourselves. Lastly, I plan on listening to millennials more carefully. They are the future and they’ve got a lot to offer. Happy New Year, everyone!
