PROBLEMS OF THE MUHAMMADANS: A Wake-Up Call by Mohammed A. Halim is a very unusual book, and not for the faint of conscience or contemplation. It delves deeply into issues of modern-day Muhammadans in a way some may find quite controversial, while others may find it highly original. According to the author, non-Arab Muhammadans should not even look upon Muhammad as their Messenger nor consider Koranic Muhammadism as their religion, even if indeed that is the precise form of spirituality they practice. According to Halim, the Koranic laws about prayer, fasting and pilgrimage are not valid outside Arabia. Meanwhile, in the view of the author, it is the non-Koranic laws, i.e. Shariah law — that is at the heart of most problems related to this topic. Shariah law is what the uniformed rest of the world generally thinks of when contemplating Muhammadism, but it is this that has perhaps turned Arab and non-Arab practitioners alike from Man into beast.
Basically Halim’s extensive tome is an English translation of the Koran that collects verses related to certain topics and provides commentary. Most likely to be of interest to Muhammadans, along with religious scholars and researchers, PROBLEMS OF THE MUHAMMADANS may also benefit any reader who presumes — after the heartbreaking events of 9/11 as well as various wars taking place since in the Middle East — that all Muhammadans must be ‘evil,’ as relentlessly advertised by U.S. media and politicians. Leaving aside the contested question of who may actually have been responsible for 9/11, readers may find their eyes and minds opening to heretofore unforeseen facts such as: Muhammadans are the second largest religious group in the world even while in every other way (industrially, scientifically, technologically) they lag behind. And yet most disturbingly, many of the negative behaviors supposedly associated with this religion are in reality entirely in opposition to the essential teachings contained within the Koran, the Hadith (wise sayings bequeathed by Muhammad), and the Sunnah (the actual practices of Muhammad). There are some formatting problems in the book, yet taken as a whole this is a tour de force for those interested in the subject matter.
Author Mohammed A. Halim constructs a brilliant case for greater understanding of the ancient knowledge offered by Muhammad in the Koran in PROBLEMS OF THE MUHAMMADANS: A Wake-Up Call.
