When Grace, daughter of billionaire scientist Dr Peter Strauss, goes missing on a research trip to Guatemala, an explosive international situation looks ready to break out. A road accident involving Grace and her fiancé Alan has led to a cover-up by policeman Fernando Ramirez and his corrupt partner Javier Villalta, after which Grace is kidnapped, imprisoned, and set to be sold to PVLI, a Nicaraguan paramilitary group and criminal cartel. The Transnational Anti-Gang Task Force is called in to locate Grace, while FBI Agents Garcia and Allen gather clues to solve the case.
Desperate to get his daughter home safely, Dr Strauss asks his newest employee, FBI agent Mike Murphy, to step in and coordinate the international rescue mission. Ex-Navy SEAL Mike is well qualified to offer his assistance – he’s got a military background having served in Afghanistan, and received a Silver Star for destroying an Al-Qaeda compound during his time in service. Before the crisis hit, Mike was about to start a new role at Strauss Global Sciences heading up security at the high-tech military defense contractor and developer of the most advanced military drones in the world. He’s got no idea of what top secret technology lays hidden behind its walls – but he’s about to get a crash course in the powerful weapons being developed by Strauss and his team. They have created NAIMERAs (Naturally and Artificially Intelligent Chimeras): fantastical creatures which are mission-adaptable, bio-engineered drones, designed and grown in Strauss’s labs. With DNA selection, these living AIs are equipped with all manner of weapons and are capable of shapeshifting mid-mission – and they can even talk. As wonderful as these creatures are, time is running out, and Mike and his old SEAL buddies must team up with the NAIMERAs to rescue Grace before it’s too late – but with the minutes ticking past, will they make it before it’s too late?
