Advice from IR Approved Author Gregory Lee: “Write from the heart. Be true to yourself.”

My Good Life: Received a 4+ star review, making it an IndieReader Approved title.

Following find an interview with author Gregory Lee:

  1. What is the name of the book and when was it published? My Good Life published January 6, 2026.
  2. What’s the book’s first line? For the most part, I have had a happy good life but in March 2022, I came close to an unexpected, untimely death.
  3. What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”. Rise of a black man from the abject poverty in Chicago to a successful career as an Air Force officer and adjunct professor dealing with obstacles along the way.
  4. What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event? A near death experience inspired me to write a book to leave a legacy or memoir for my children and grandchildren.
  5. What’s the main reason someone should really read this book? There are three main reasons to read My Good Life, they are inspiring journey, overcoming adversity, and motivational storytelling.
  6. When did you first decide to become an author? I thought about when I retired in 2018 but never got the motivation until later.
  7. Is this the first book you’ve written? This is the first book I have written.
  8. What do you do for work when you’re not writing? I am retired.
  9. How much time do you generally spend on your writing? When I was actively writing I spent 8 to 10 hours a day on the process.
  10. What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie? The best part of being an Indie is the wide audience. The hardest part of being an Indie is producing a product that has wide appeal.
  11. What’s a great piece of advice that you can share with fellow indie authors? My advice would be to write from the heart. Be true to yourself.
  12. Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling? If so, why? Yes, because there are so many details to take care of that may distract from the writing process.
  13. Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?) The thing that motivated me is leaving a digital footprint or legacy for those that follow.
  14. Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire? Andre Norton (Alice Norton). She was a sci-fi writer whose books I read growing up.
  15. Which book do you wish you could have written? 1984 by Orson Wells because it is a dire warning for the future.
