Advice from IR Approved Author Lisa Dianne McInnes: “Don’t back down just because you might fail…make the choice, take action, it’s so worth it.”

The Majewski Curse received a 4+ star review, making it an IndieReader Approved title.

Following find an interview with authors Lisa Dianne McInnes.

What is the name of the book and when was it published?

The Majewski Curse, July 15th, 2021

What’s the book’s first line?

“You know that feeling when you can’t make sense of anything?”

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

In her debut novel, Lisa Mcinnes urges us to explore the meaning of loss, the evil side of human nature, and the infinite power of rising above it all.

I invite you to experience what it feels like to have your family shattered by the pain of vehicular manslaughter coupled by the excruciating pain of the killer dismissing your child’s death as a possible animal that they hit on the road while they were texting. Only to discover that those words were just a smokescreen to hide the fact that she knew that she was “above the law”, this monster of a human heading home from a night of drinking struck these three boys so hard from behind that Brandon flew over 350 feet. Please join me on this journey full of twist and turns, some which may make you cry and some will infuriate you, but in the end the takeaway that I want you to feel is gratitude, appreciation and strength.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

The Inspiration for my book was to tell the very complex story of the deaths of three Majewski’s, my two step-sons and my husband, whose lives were tragically lost in 3 separate traumatic events in a domino-like effect between the years of 2012 and 2017, in addition the driver of the vehicle who killed our 17 year old Brandon, also sued our family for her ptsd, an act so callous that it caused outrage that spread like wildfire throughout our local community and the media. My oldest step-son Devon had suggested to me that he believed his family was cursed, something I dismissed as ridiculous in 2011 whenit was said , at the time it would have been impossible for me to imagine that in in 2017 just 6 short years later that Brandon, Devon and Derek Majewski would all be dead.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

The main reason that someone should read this book would be to feel Passion and to find power and strength in healing no matter what the circumstance. This story is full of intense emotional triggers, love, sorrow, grief, anger, frustration, loneliness, despair and ultimately strength. The reader for this book enjoys true stories, stories involving crime involving police, stories about family life involving tragedy, and in the case of this story the tragedies are multiple. After finishing this story I want the reader to take a closer look at the fragility of life, to realize that there is more to a story than always meets the eye, to gain more gratitude and appreciation for life and know that there is power and strength in healing. I hope the warning signs of complicated grief could potentially save lives and will have the capacity to help others who are suffering from the painful loss of a loved one.

When did you first decide to become an author?

I first decided to become an Author 2 years ago when I first started writing “The Majewski Curse”.

Is this the first book you’ve written?

Yes, this is the first book that I have written.

What do you do for work when you’re not writing?

I ran my own home daycare for years when my children were growing up, I’m retired these days and have discovered that I thoroughly love writing.

How much time do you generally spend on your writing?

I write at least 3-4 hours a day, but the only way that I am able to get truly in the zone is in the middle of the night, I’m a night hawk.

What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?

The best part of being an Indie is the independence of knowing that you did it on your own, that can be very rewarding. The hardest part I think is having to figure out everything on your own, this can be difficult if you are new to technology and social media as you are responsible for all your own promoting, it can be very challenging.

What’s a great piece of advice that you can share with fellow indie authors?

I am not fear-less, I am Courageous. I’m scared of lots of things (such as writing this book)! I have always been an Introvery, so the idea of putting my words out there for the whole world to see and hear, almost made me faint, but writing this book was beyond empowering! I have mastered the ability to look fear in the face, found my voice and pushed through it. Don’t back down just because you might fail or are scared, make the choice, take action, it’s so worth it❤️

Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling?  If so, why?

I have thought about this and I would be open to the idea, as I feel that a “traditional publisher” may possibly open the doors to other industry venues for my story, the opportunity would also help drastically with promotion.

Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)

I am motivated by praise, knowing that I have done something well. it makes my heart very happy to hear people say that they love my writing and my story made them cry, saying that they felt more empowered with strength, that’s what I love to hear. I feel such joy to help others, and the idea that my words give people strength is beyond inspiring.

Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire?

I really enjoy Deepak Chopra.

Which book do you wish you could have written?

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck .
