What is the name of the book and when was it published?

Sailing Bluewater Mystique Solo, Sailing the Exumas Alone”.

What’s the book’s first line?

When I was around eight my parents moved to the country.

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

Sailing alone through the Exumas and Bahamas.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event? 

I gained a good deal of insight from sailing alone. And I thought it insightful to share my story with others.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

If they were into adventure or wanted to know about sailing alone.

If they made your book into a movie, who would you like to see play the main character(s)?

Tom Hanks or Robert Redford.

When did you first decide to become an author?

Many years ago while I was teaching English.

Is this the first book you’ve written?

It’s the second book with the first being My Rite of Passage During the Summer of ’76“.

What do you do for work when you’re not writing?

I’m retired so I write often.

How much time do you generally spend on your writing?

10-20 hours a week – Because I am retired, I spend a great deal of time writing.

What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?   

The hardest is staying focused and the best is feeling a book is completed,

What’s a great piece of advice that you can share with fellow indie authors?

Start writing when you have the urge, write about what you love and keep writing whenever you can.

Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling?  If so, why?  

What do you mean by traditional? If you mean would I go the with a conservative cover and publisher. The answer would be “No”.

Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)

I admire the telling of a story. I would like to be famous.

Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire?

I admire F Scott Fitzgerald the most for his telling of the story of a man fully in love and the way he told it.

Which book do you wish you could have written?

I wish I could have written Sailing Alone Around the World” by Joshua Slocum
