Where They Graze Without Flowers received a 4+ star review, making it an IndieReader Approved title.

What is the name of the book and when was it published?

Where They Graze Without Flowers – 2019

What’s the book’s first line?

I watch as his boat drifts into the sunset.

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

Where They Graze Without Flowers is about redemption and faith. It’s about having faith and carrying on when there are no flowers, no bright spots, when faith itself seems inaccessible and elusive.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

I was actually working on a different, non-fiction project. The combination of my life circumstances at the time, Kerouac, and Steinbeck led me to write what became Where They Graze Without Flowers.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

I feel the book touches on areas that transcend normal everyday life, even as the characters’ travel through ordinary and extraordinary occurrences. Readers will share in thoughts and feelings that will resonate with those areas that transcend our transient qualities.

What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character?  Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?

Like many of us, Kin was a man who thought he had it all figured out. His responses to life’s upheavals, tribulations, and questions are compelling to me. He is a combination of many people I have known.

When did you first decide to become an author?

I have always wanted to be an author but had zero vision in becoming one. At some point I figured, why not? Why not me? I don’t consider myself a full-fledged author yet, but happily moving in that direction.

Is this the first book you’ve written?

I have two other books in draft. This is the first I have published.

How much time do you generally spend on your writing?

I am a binge writer. So, anytime between 0 and 8 hours in a day, depending upon the day. I could stand to be more disciplined in my writing.

What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?

The very best thing about being an Indie is the no limitations aspect to writing. As an author you can go as far as your imagination allows.

What’s a great piece of advice that you can share with fellow indie authors?

If the inspiration hits, write. If there is a desire, and even if you don’t know where it’s going, write. You can always work on the re-tooling and editing later.

Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling?  If so, why?

If there was an opportunity to widely distribute and promote my work, not take the majority of the profits, and give me complete freedom in my work – I would consider it. However, I like the idea of being an Indie and hope to make a living working as an indie author.

Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)

The idea of my work connecting with people in a meaningful way is what motivates me the most.

Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire?

There are so many writers who do so many incredible things in varying degrees. I will attempt a few; Kerouac, Steinbeck, Emerson, Thoreau and Bukowski. Right now, I am absolutely fascinated and blown away by Shane Koyczan.

Which book do you wish you could have written?

On the Road.
