Terry Lynne Hale on “The Straightforward Internet- Your Simplified Guide to Exploring Everything from Basics to Social Media to the Deep Web”

The Straightforward Internet received a 4+ star review, making it an IndieReader Approved title.

Following find an interview with author Terry Lynne Hale.

What is the name of the book and when was it published?

The Straightforward Internet– Your Simplified Guide to Exploring Everything from Basics to Social Media to the Deep Web, 2/17

What’s the book’s first line?

“For most of us who were around during the birth of the Internet, we sure never dreamed it would become this big and this universal.”

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

With our ever-decreasing attention spans, it’s imperative we deliver our message quickly and concisely. TSI is an easy-going read, intended for the Gen-Xer formerly reluctant to accept the Internet but now knows it’s here to stay and the technologically competent Gen-Xer who grasps the fluid landscape of the Digital Universe and wants to keep up with it!

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

I know several Gen-Xers who maneuver masterfully through social media platforms but get lost in the minutiae while trying to obtain specific answers with time-efficient Internet searches.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

To learn in plain language, the basics from the history of the Internet to general electronic communication and device options, to protecting their investment, to Social Media including fun things like online Easter Eggs, to using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to Bitcoin use on the Darknet.”

If they made your book into a movie, who would you like to see play the main character(s)?

Well, that’s easy- it’d have to be Marty & Doc.

When did you first decide to become an author?

When I was 13 –many, many rough drafts ago.

Is this the first you’ve written?

No, my first book, Ageless Internet – Internet Basics for Boomers and Seniors, won the 2012 Indie Excellence Award in its genre.

What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?

I love the freedom to write about what I want and the most challenging part of it is compelling readers to write honest reviews that will help me grow from obscurity to authority.

What’s a great piece of advice that you can share with fellow indie authors?

Believe in yourself and never, ever, give up!

Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling?  If so, why?

I would definitely consider it because despite Indie’s amazing growth, there are still readers “out there” who don’t have the same respect for an Indie author that they do for authors of traditionally published work.

Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire?

So many writers, so little time; impossible for me to name just one at this time.

Which book do you wish you could have written?

On Writing – A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King
