IR Approved Author Jackie Goldman: “I wanted to write a positive book that makes people feel good about the people around them…”

Beautiful Minds received a 4+ star review, making it an IndieReader Approved title.

Following find an interview with author Jackie Goldman.

What is the name of the book and when was it published?

The book is called Beautiful Minds, and I published it in the summer of 2018.

What’s the book’s first line?

“I wish I could describe the feeling of playing my violin.”

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

Beautiful Minds is a series of ghostwritten narratives. Each chapter reads like a short story and features a New Yorker who followed his or her passions to make a difference. I asked each participant to address how the city played into their personal journey both in forming them, and contributing to the collective. The book is meant to be the first in a series of volumes which will encourage readers to think beyond their assumptions about the people they see every day. Everyone has a story to tell; some wisdom to impart.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

Honestly, I’ve lived in this city for thirty years and I’ve seen such a change! Walking around New York used to be like being part of an ongoing conversation. Everyone was so warm; so real; so NEW YORK. Now everyone has earbuds in or is looking at their phone. The spirit of community and helpfulness seems to have drained from the sidewalks and into the gutter. I miss the old New York! Maybe we can get it back.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

To feel good. I wanted to write a positive book that makes people feel good about the people around them, and also feel encouraged about how others might perceive them more positively than they imagine.
