What’s the book’s first line?
Eric Guy Earle was born November 24, 1917 in Carbonear, Newfoundland.
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch.
The book is about the adventurous life of Capt Guy Earle, who became a master of the salt fish schooner trade in the early 1900’s. The story takes place from the beautiful coast line of Newfoundland, where the culture and character of its maritime-fisher people express a 500 year struggle against natures harshest environment.
What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
Inspiration for the book came from the exploits of my father, which I witnessed as a child and partly as told to me by his friends. The book was written 50 years after his passing, over which time it became more obvious that no one did the things he did during his life time. It finally dawned on me that he was unique and his story should be written down for readers and future generations. He was a man for the ages, whose life story should be preserved.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
Besides the fascination of the things Guy did in his life, his attitude and behaviour toward people, business, and society in general, is as important today as it was in his day. If you have confidence in yourself, “never knowing what you can do until you try’ attitude, always helping and loving people, it is the best way to success whether it be in business or your interaction with your society.
When did you first decide to become an author?
In 2019 I realized now remarkable Guy’s life had been, I knew then his story had to be told.
Is this the first book you’ve written?
I have a manuscript of another book written, but not published. It is called A Whisper of Creation, which refers to how the deepest part of man is connected to the Universe. This was written many years ago, and David Bohm (friend of Einstein) and William Archibald, both theoretical physicists, recommended I publish it.
What do you do for work when you’re not writing?
Nature walks, gardening, investing, Mathematics, quantum physics and socializing with friends.
How much time do you generally spend on your writing?
Only the 2 year period when writing this book.
What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?
Best part is telling the truth, the hardest part is expressing it correctly.
What’s a great piece of advice that you can share with fellow indie authors?
Always try your best to express what your heart is telling you.
Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling? If so, why?
No.
Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)
The truth of the universe is indefinitely beautiful.

Jiddu Krishnamurti, David Bohm.
Which books do you wish you could have written?
Science, Order, and Creativity by David Bohm, The Mountains of California by John Muir.
