What is the name of the book and when was it published?

The title of the book is Secrets of a Hiring Manager Turned Career Coach: A Foolproof Guide to Getting the Job You Want. Every time. It was published in September 2014.

What’s the book’s first line?

“Finding a job you love isn’t easy.”

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

In my 20+ years of experience climbing the corporate ladder from the bottom rung to the executive suite, I’ve had the unique opportunity to see exactly what works and what doesn’t in the job seeking process. This insight and guidance is what I’ve been sharing with coaching clients for years, helping each one find a job they love with a 100% success rate. Now, I’ve shared everything I would divulge to a client one-to-one, on the topics in this book.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

During the recent economic recession, numerous coaching clients came to me because they were struggling to gain any traction in their job search. Many had been laid off from positions they’d had for a decade or more and had no idea where or how to start looking for a job. College grads who were conducting their first real job hunt were taking an unfounded approach – over-the-top tactics like singing telegrams, cookie resumes (yes, really!) and more to gain the attention of hiring managers. It seemed no one had a clear sense of what the basics really were and even fewer were doing them well.

Sharing the same advice over and over with each client, I knew there was an opportunity to reach a larger audience and to help many more people find success and happiness in their careers. This is why I wrote the book.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

This book is meant to be your go-to guide for conducting a successful job search, sharing the basics everyone should master. Most of the book’s advice is timeless, so it’s a great reference guide to have throughout your career. Just graduated college students, moms returning to the workforce after taking time off to raise kids, and those wanting to completely change career fields have all found success from this book.
