IR VERDICT:
Sweetly illustrated by Erica De Chavez, MIGHTY MAY WON’T CRY TODAY by Kendra & Claire-Voe Ocampo uses an easy-to-follow, rhythmical text to tell the story of May’s first day of school. While a bit challenging, she manages to get through a few mishaps with her head held high. Still, she’s ashamed because, yes, she does cry. The book, featuring the dynamics of a family with two same-sex parents, helps children learn that crying is OK.
