DARKER SHADES OF THE AMERICAN DREAM is a brief memoir about a young black man from the South who dreams of becoming a doctor. While readers don’t get the satisfaction of learning exactly how Dr. Oba George achieves his ultimate goal, the stories of his determination set against his struggles against racism are both illuminating and thought-provoking.
