Not my fault. Non mea culpa. Funny how it sounds more official in Latin.
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.
From loser, to vandal, to… hero? Tenth-grader Hy navigates new, messy feelings of friendship, identity, and self-worth through an epic art project.
What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
The teenage heart is so fragile. In my experience, having a creative outlet (in this case art) for angst and insecurity can be a real lifesaver.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
To feel empowered, and ultimately inspired to pay it forward.
What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?
Hy is an enigma of sorts.
When did you first decide to become an author?
A traditionally published songwriter for decades, I started focusing on novel writing about four years ago. It’s a considerable leap from 200 to 80,000 words.
Is this the first book you’ve written?
Second, but this is the first one I published.
What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?
Driving the ship and yet always having to drive the ship.
Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling? If so, why?
I like the creative control of being indie, but also enjoy the connection with a team. If the right traditional situation arises, perhaps.
Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)
The love of storytelling.
