Following find an interview with author Drea Braddock.
What is the name of the book and when was it published?
Intentional Acts of Kindness, published 6/17/22.
What’s the book’s first line?
Jeepers creepers, it’s him again!
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch.”
What if a woman with a dark past who finds safety in caring for others anonymously helps a man at his lowest point? What if that man truly sees her and wants more than anything to be someone who could care for her? What would it take for her to trust that he is safe and believe she deserves happiness?
What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
This book was actually inspired by a twitter thread! People were sharing random acts of kindness a stranger had done for them and I started to imagine scenarios where an act of kindness could lead to a happily ever after. I wanted to explore what type of person would choose to uplift others, anonymously, and what it would mean for them to be really and truly seen by someone else.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
Read this book if you love to escape into love stories but long for more than the shiny veneer; not perfection but hard-fought-for happy endings between messy, imperfect, damaged people.
What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?
Ivy is selfless and caring, but afraid to accept for herself the good things she so willingly gives others. Miles is introspective, creative, and doesn’t shy away from deep emotions. Readers have compared him to Jess Mariano from “Gilmore Girls” and I love that!
Is this the first book you’ve written?
Intentional Acts of Kindness was the first book I wrote, but it’s the 6th I’ve published.
What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?
The best part of being an indie author is having complete control over the stories I want to tell. The hardest part is having every part of the editing, publishing, and marketing solely on my shoulders.
