Following find an interview with author Regina Toffolo.
What is the name of the book and when was it published?
The Second Child, first published in August, 2020
What’s the book’s first line?
“Once upon a time, there was a pretty little girl. She was a bright, funny, whimsical, idealistic, and caring little girl, who yes, quite frankly, could be a little bratty, but one who had an inherent innocence. She was The Second Child.”
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.
The Second Child is an inspiring collection of stories, some tragic, some happy, told in a uniquely endearing fashion. With both gentle compassion and brutal honesty, the author provides insight into a world where multiple generations experience mental illness and addiction. You will want to pull up a chair to listen as the stories weave an engrossing tale of a lifetime of love and heartbreak, challenge and joy, and not least of all, hope and faith.
What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
There comes a time in life when deep truths cry out to be revealed in order to make peace with the life one has lived. This is where life unexpectedly brought me.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
Hopefully, this book will inspire others on a similar journey, and demonstrate how one can find a path forward in life in spite of difficulties.
Is this the first book you’ve written?
This is the first book I’ve written, although I’ve also dabbled in unpublished poetry.
What do you do for work when you’re not writing?
I work in the computer science field.
Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling? If so, why?
Yes, I would as I feel it would open up marketing opportunities.
Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)
Every author must have a purpose, whether it be to entertain, to inform, or to share experience. My purpose here is to help others who have struggled with mental illness and addiction, or who may have family members struggling with mental illness or addiction, in hopes that I may be able to meet them on the other side.
