What is the name of the book and when was it published?
The Sweetest Therapy. Publication date: May 7th, 2021

On July 14, 2017, I experienced a life-altering loss when my mom Connie die of complications from metastatic breast cancer.
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.
The Sweetest Therapy takes a bold approach to the world of baking by showcasing it as a positive outlet for coping with grief, loss, and profound sadness. The narrative takes readers on a personal journey with as I candidly details how, after losing his mother to cancer in 2017, grief adversely impacted him by manifesting as emotional eating and negative self-talk. It also provides clinical advice from a therapist on how to combat negative self-talk by using uplifting affirmations to reframe it and to boost emotional resilience. This curative cookbook leverages personal experience and professional insight to encourage those suffering from disheartening loss to use positive coping methods to heal, just like he did.
What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
After the loss of my mother, I read an article about things to do during the grieving process and “learning a new skill” stood out to me. So, I decided to learn how to bake and in the process found my sweetest therapy in the kitchen.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
The Sweetest Therapy provides a heartfelt perspective of my grieving process partnered with professional position on mental health and healing. The combination of clever baking tips and suggestions for positive coping strategies, like positive affirmations, make the book unique. The book also adds a dab of fun, as I share lighthearted moments with friends and family, along with native information about New Orleans, arguably one of the most interesting cities in the world!
What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?
Is this the first book you’ve written?
Yes, The Sweetest Therapy, is the first book I’ve written and intend to write more books in the future.
What do you do for work when you’re not writing?
During the week, I’m a licensed therapist who provides counseling services at a local community clinic in New Orleans. However, on the weekend, I am in the kitchen baking up delectable desserts.
Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling? If so, why?
No, I enjoy the creative expression and control in writing my own narrative as an indie author.
Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)
I am motivated in helping, inspiring and empowering others in therapy and satisfaction of others savoring my sweets from the kitchen.
Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire?
Great question, the writer that I would have to choose is Oprah Winfrey. She is an inspiring woman who personifies perseverance. One of my favorite quotes by her is ‘turning your wounds into wisdom, which inspired me in writing my first curative cookbook, The Sweetest Therapy, to empower others by sharing an authentic narrative about grief coupled with clinical insight.
Which book do you wish you could have written?
The Path Made Clear: Discovering Your Life’s Direction and Purpose by Oprah Winfrey.
