Following find an interview with author Isabel Jolie.
What is the name of the book and when was it published?
Chasing Frost, release date January 19, 2020
What’s the book’s first line?
The mammoth diamond on her ring finger disperses rays of light, spinning magenta and yellow flecks of color across the marble ballroom floor.
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.
Sadie Keating transfers to the New York City FBI office and is immediately assigned in her first undercover role. It should be a simple, boring office assignment. Someone within the company is altering the financials for several corporations currently under FBI investigation. The prime suspect, Chase Maitlin, welcomes her to the company and to his city. He seemingly makes the assignment easy for her, but as she gets closer to him, she discovers the assignment isn’t nearly as simple as originally anticipated.
Chasing Frost, the fifth and final book in the West Side Series is a steamy, enemies-to-lovers, sometimes funny, sometimes suspenseful contemporary FBI romance novel featuring a smart, dedicated heroine and the sexy bad boy who steals her heart.
What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
Chase has a supporting friend role in the first four books of the West Side Series. He’s the alpha male with a comical edge. No one takes him seriously. But under all the laughs, he’s ambitious, driven, and quietly successful. When I thought about what kind of woman would knock him off his feet, I knew it had to be an independent woman who surprised him, and along came Agent Frost.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
It’s a fast-paced romance with a mystery edge and entertaining real-world references.
What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?
Well, in the world of romance, I’d say Chase stands out in that he’s under six feet tall. He’s not super short, but he’s not your typical hero- and that’s where some of those underlying insecurities come from, and his jocular personality. In that regard, I’d say he probably does remind me of some of the shorter guys I’ve known who tended to fall back on a comedic role.
If they made your book into a movie, who would you like to see play the main character(s)?
Chase Maitlin – Zac Efron; Sadie Keating (alias Sydney Frost) – Alexandra Daddario
Is this the first book you’ve written?
No, but it is the conclusion of my first series. All of the books in the series are standalone and can be ready in any order.
What do you do for work when you’re not writing?
I have a website that sells study material under my real name (Isabel Jolie is a pen name).
How much time do you generally spend on your writing?
On the actual writing, around 15 to 20 hours a week. But, I spend additional time editing, time marketing, and publishing. I spend well over forty hours each week on my writing career.
What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?
The best part is that you can actually go out and publish without having to wait potentially years to find an agent and a publisher. The freedom and independence to go ahead and publish has to be the best aspect of being Indie. The hardest part is that you must learn all the aspects of publishing. A traditionally published author can leave it to the publisher to write the blurb, handle marketing and publicity, monitor reviews, monitor trends, etc. But, I suspect, over time, an Indie author who spends time learning the industry and the ins and outs of marketing (what works in the genre, what doesn’t) will ultimately be in a more advantageous place for the long haul.
