Alex Chu on her IRDA Winning Book “Days of Amber”

IRDA stciker

What is the name of the book and when was it published?

The title is Days of Amber by Alex Chu, and it was first self-published in June 2014, then published through Visionary Press Collaborative in January 2015.

What’s the book’s first line?

The first line is, “This was the day – the annual executive meeting of Amber & Associates.”

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

A satirical look inside the often boring corporate structure of a software company.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

All the books and stories about Wall Street and computer hackings have been dark and macabre, and I just wanted to release a story that made fun of all that – made the darkness lighter and funnier. And that’s how I got inspired to write Days of Amber.

What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?

I think all of the characters represent the different perceptions that people view corporate America – as delusional narcissistic fantasy-chasers. A lot of the story’s aspects are exaggerated – personality traits, characters’ behaviors, thoughts and appearances – and I think that’s also how people who are directly involved in corporations view themselves and their superiors, which is something I wanted to reveal to those who are not involved in corporations.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

People should read my book if they want a story that makes fun of corporate America in a knowledgeable and well-informed way.
