RAVE

Konn Lavery’s RAVE is like a 1980s slasher movie made into a book: a fast-paced, blood-soaked roller coaster with likable characters, a menacing masked killer, and deaths narrated in grisly details. It’s also as silly as these films, with a “mystery” that goes nowhere and protagonists making stupid mistakes that result in the death of their friends. But the narrative has moments of great suspense (especially in the first half) and a lovely group of young people that the reader simply doesn’t want to be killed, which is always an admirable feat for this kind of story.
