IR Approved Author Vincent Panettiere: “I’m in competition with myself to tell a compelling story.”

A WOMAN TO BLAME received a 4+ star review, making it an IndieReader Approved title.

Following find an interview with author Vincent Panettiere.

What is the name of the book and when was it published?

A WOMAN TO BLAME, Published: 9/2/2019

What’s the book’s first line?

“What’s the mystery?” Mike Hegan asked as his boots shuffled a path…..

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

The Chicago Police Department determines that the death of a racehorse and its trainer is a murder/suicide.  Detective Mike Hegan refuses to accept such a facile and lazy explanation. His journey will take him to an island in the Caribbean where truth is found and lives lost.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

A long ago article in a newspaper reported that a woman was found dead on a beach outside Chicago.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

Reviewers have described A Woman to Blame as a:

“slow burner of a mystery that hooks  readers … “

“a roller coaster ride through to the conclusion… characters are fully formed and complex…”

“Its believability… helps drive the novel forward.”

“ The novel works both as a thrilling mystery and an intensely personal character study.”

Finally, one reviewer wrote that A Woman to Blame “puts poetry back into murder.”

What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character?  Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?

Mike Hegan is an “everyman” who is determined and dedicated. He may not be distinctive, but he gets the job done.

If they made your book into a movie, who would you like to see play the main character(s)?

If A Woman to Blame was made into a movie, I would stay out of the way and let the producers make the best movie they can.

When did you first decide to become an author?

I’ve wanted to be an author for longer than I can remember. Only in the last ten years have I taken strides to accomplish this goal.

Is this the first book you’ve written?

To date I’ve written three novels besides A Woman To Blame. The others are the award-winning and critically-acclaimed These Thy Gifts and The Scopas Factor. In addition, I’ve written one non-fiction book: The Internet Financing Illusion – which looks at the dark side of the Internet.

How much time do you generally spend on your writing?

I don’t calculate time spent writing. I just write.

What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?

Being able to write tension free is the best part. The hardest is promoting the book once it is published.

What’s a great piece of advice that you can share with fellow indie authors?

I’d tell Indie Authors to keep going and never give up.

Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling?  If so, why?

I would go to a traditional publisher for not only the money it could offer, but also all the promotion and marketing services it could provide my book.

Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)

I’m in competition with myself to tell a compelling story.

Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire?

There are too many to list.
