Following find an interview with author Brit Lunden.
What is the name of the book and when was it published?
The Knowing: Book 1 in A Bulwark Anthology was published on March 19, 2019.
What’s the book’s first line?
JB closed the door gently, glad to have the place to himself again. Sheriff Clay Finnes had taken the injured couple to the hospital.
The only sound in the cabin was the creak of the wooden floors settling and the tick of the antique regulator clock that hung on the wall.
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.
JB and Ellie are high schoolers with an instant connection that makes their impossible romance inevitable.
What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
I felt the same way about my husband. We had an instant connection when I first met him at 16. We had so many obstacles, and yet we overcame them and married. We had a wonderful life. The book was published on what would have been our 41st wedding anniversary. I lost him to cancer on Feb 2, 2018. We were together for 48 wonderful years. I wrote the book as a tribute to enduring love with the complete understanding that love never dies.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
It’s a sweet tribute to overcoming hardships to be together.
What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character?
JB is loyal and admirable. He always tries to do the right thing.
Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?
My husband.
If they made your book into a movie, who would you like to see play the main character(s)?
Ryan Reynolds and Felicity Jones.
When did you first decide to become an author?
I always wanted to be an author, but I finally published my first book of 60 in 2012 when I began my children’s series Captain No Beard under the pen name Carole P. Roman.
Is this the first book you’ve written?
Bulwark was the first book I published as an adult fiction author. It was followed by The Knowing and The Devil and Dayna Dalton, all in the Bulwark series. I have 57 books published as Carole P. Roman.
What do you do for work when you’re not writing?
I am the CEO of a large transportation company. I am at work at 6 AM where I work with my kids, my brother, and about 400 other people.
How much time do you generally spend on your writing?
I write usually at night from 8 PM until I feel finished.
What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?
Marketing and selling books. It’s so hard to get eyes on your books. Getting recognized. I have one book- a traditionally published one, (The Big Silly Book of Jokes written by Carole P. Roman ) that became a best-seller on Amazon. It reached number 11 in best-selling books on their site. I saw the difference in sales and the number of reviews that were generated. Over 50000 books were sold in a very short time. I wish all my books sold like that!
What’s a great piece of advice that you can share with fellow indie authors?
Get active with a community of authors who will cross-promote with you.
Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling? If so, why?
I have. I published three books as Carole P. Roman with Calista Press.
Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)
I love the idea that my stories or books inspire or affects people I never met. Getting notes that a book moved them, or changed their perception fills me with excitement.
Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire?
James Clavell. Love his books. They are the perfect mixture of adventure, romance, intrigue, and history.
Which book do you wish you could have written?
Anything that could make the NY Times Best Sellers list.
