Advice from IR Approved Author Dee Knight: “Stick to your story, and never give up!”

A Realistic Path to Peace: From Genocide to Global War… and How We Can Stop It received a 4+ star review, making it an IndieReader Approved title.

Following find an interview with author Dee Knight.

What is the name of the book and when was it published?

A Realistic Path to Peace: From Genocide to Global War… and How We Can Stop It

What’s the book’s first line?

“The world is in a crisis now. As its empire declines toward collapse, the United States leadership is making a series of disastrous errors.”

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

This book delves into genocide in Palestine, and the war crisis in eastern Europe, West Asia and East Asia. It examines the role of the Big Lie in blunting popular opposition, and describes ways countries around the world and the general public are pressing for peace. Reviewer Andrea D writes in NetGalley that “Knight provides the historical context as well as sharp insight. The essays are succinct, pointed and very clear. This is a great supplement for any college class as well as a book to be discussed in community groups.”

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

I am deeply concerned that people in the United States are not getting the truth about wars — and genocide — waged with our tax dollars and in our name. I think if people know the real story, they can be empowered to put a stop to the extreme danger of horrifying “limited war” spiraling into global war.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

People need both clarity and hope. Reading this book will provide both.

When did you first decide to become an author?

I have been writing journalistically for decades, mainly about war, peace and social justice.

Is this the first book you’ve written?

About a decade ago I began writing my political  memoir, My Whirlwind Lives: Navigating Decades of Storms. It was first published in 2019. The new edition was released in 2022.

What do you do for work when you’re not writing?

I’m a retired history teacher. Now when I’m not writing I teach and provide seminars and podcasts.

How much time do you generally spend on your writing?

I write about “half-time,” and spend the rest either on promotion or “podcasting.”

What’s the best and the hardest part of being an indie?

Self-publishing is like pushing a rock up a slippery slope. Indie authors and publishers need more help!

What’s a great piece of advice that you can share with fellow indie authors?

Stick to your story, and never give up!

Would you go traditional if a publisher came calling?  If so, why?

Traditional publishers generally will only invest in new authors once we’ve proven we can reach an audience. I would consider offers from a traditional publisher if they agreed to invest seriously in promoting my books.

Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)

My books are really about my ongoing efforts to “change the world,” that is, to end wars and achieve justice.

Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire?

I love the work of Isabel Allende.
