Following find an interview with author Ana Atanaskovic.
What is the name of the book and when was it published?
My Love Nikola Tesla, published in 2022.
What’s the book’s first line?
I got this leather notebook from Mr. Robert Underwood Johnson, whom I first met back in January.
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.
It is a romanticized biography of the woman who loved the famous scientist Nikola Tesla the most. She and her husband were Tesla’s best friends, and Tesla lit a light in her heart that she didn’t know about until then. It is a story of passion, longing, waiting, sacrifice, and spiritual love, in which aspects of Tesla’s personality are shown that were not known until now. Also, this is a novel about New York, its Gilded Age, a woman’s life fighting for her place, the elite society of that era (Twain, Kipling…), and the meeting of two twin souls, one of which is married to science. Through Mrs. Johnson’s life, Tesla’s fascinating personality and American history are depicted.
What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
As a child, I saw the story of Mrs. Johnson in the scientific magazine Galaxy that my father bought, more precisely in the special edition of the magazine devoted to Tesla. I saw her photo that stuck in my memory. Many years later, through the emotion and energy that comes from the Cosmos, the idea came to me that I should write about that woman who, with her love, illuminated the man who illuminated the world.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
People should read this book because it allows one to feel the deepest emotions of commitment, cosmic connection, friendship and spiritual depths. Also, the novel is vivid, full of practical details about life in New York in its heyday.
What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?
She is a fiery, energetic, enterprising person who faces an insurmountable obstacle because the man she loves has vowed to dedicate herself to science and is also her husband’s best friend. She is persistent, capricious but full of love.
When did you first decide to become an author?
Unconsciously – in childhood. Half-consciously – in high school. Quite consciously, in 2006.
Is this the first book you’ve written?
No, I have six titles published.
How much time do you generally spend on your writing?
The hours spent researching and compiling data cannot be counted. The hours for effective writing each day are about 3-4.
Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)
To convey emotion to people. Emotion never dies.
Which book do you wish you could have written?
‘Tom Jones’ by Henry Fielding.
