What is the name of the book and when was it published?

Simplify Your Health: A doctor’s practical guide to a healthier life. Published August 11th, 2022.

What’s the book’s first line?

If you ask my mom, she’ll tell you she always knew I would end up in medicine.

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

Simplify Your Health is a book that aims to bring simplicity to healthy life choices. There are a dizzying amount of diets and supplements that cloud the public’s perception and what is healthy and not. This book does not push a diet regimen nor a supplement, what it does is bring to light simple, practical and impactful actions to improve one’s wellbeing. These actions are pillars for the prevention of strokes and other major health conditions that impact our longevity and independence. With a little effort and constancy, these small changes will add up, and bring positive health changes to your life.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

During my neurology training, I saw many disabling and fatal strokes that were in large part preventable. I was offered the opportunity to do talks in medically underserved areas to educate the audience on the risks of strokes and what actions to take. There was a great deal of interest and appreciation, and many were adamant that they would implement changes. The positive response of the audiences at my talks, and of many patients I have treated over time lead me to want to reach a broader audience, leading me to write this book.

What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?

The reader is the main character of this book. Their independence, degree of mobility, amount of chronic pain and health risks take center stage, and are yet to be written. It is up to the reader to make small changes, and write a different path for their own life, one that may be of better quality and longevity, allowing them to enjoy all the beautiful things life has to offer.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

Simply put, to help themselves live a longer and better life. By making proven changes to one’s life habits, one can avoid the expenses of fad diets and supplements that may or may not work, and actually make positive strides to one’s wellbeing.

When did you first decide to become an author?

During medical school, I had the idea of writing a book on health and wellness. This idea became a goal while I was in my neurology residence.

Is this the first you’ve written?

This is my first book.

What do you do for work when you’re not writing?

I am a vascular neurologist specializing in the treatment of strokes, brain bleeds, aneurysms and more. I also treat other neurologic emergencies.

Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)

I am motivated by my patients. I see many patients with poorly controlled health factors. It pushes me to keep trying to educate the public on lifestyle changes, showing them WHY these changes make a significant difference in their lives.
