AGENDA 2060: The Future as It Happens was the winner of the Women’s Fiction category of the 2022 IndieReader Discovery Awards, where undiscovered talent meets people with the power to make a difference.
Following find an interview with author Suzanne Simonetti.
What is the name of the book and when was it published?
The Sound of Wings, May 4, 2021
What’s the book’s first line?
“He’s back again.”
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.
The story weaves together the story of three women whose lives are upended, and then intertwine. A gripping, touching, and memorable portrait of women rising above painful pasts to seize present opportunities and of friendships that grow, despite differences, to sustain and inspire.
What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
When I first bought my home in Cape May, I would take beach walks. A character began to develop in my mind. The sites and people of the town served as a fountain of inspiration.
What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?
There are 3 protagonists but I will talk about Krystal Axelrod—she is our born and bred local. She is buxom and blonde and has a heart as lovely and stunning as her outward appearance.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
For the perfect escape! The story really pulls you in and once you get to know all the characters, you just can’t wait to find out what happens next. The way their lives intertwine is a harmonious unfolding.
If they made your book into a movie, who would you like to see play the main character(s)?
Goldie Sparrows: Meryl Streep; Jocelyn Anderson: Anne Hathaway; Krystal Axelrod: Scarlett Johansson
Is this the first you’ve written?
This is not the first book I have written but it is the first book I published. I have another manuscript sitting in the proverbial drawer which needs some dusting off and an overhaul.
Is there something in particular that motivates you (fame? fortune?)
I am motivated by my imagination and I love dancing with it. Creating characters from the ether and see them come to life is extraordinary. Knowing that I can provide an escape form readers from their own lives is a privilege and honor.
Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire?
There are many, but I am going to say Adriana Trigiani. I am currently reading her latest, The Good Left Undone. Adriana is a champion of other writers and she puts in the hard work needed both on the creative end promotional side to get the job done as a successful author in today’s marketplace.
