IR Approved Author Danni Maynard: “I was looking for a book to read to my daughter to inspire her.”

You Can Do Anything received a 4+ star review, making it an IndieReader Approved title.

Following find an interview with author Danni Maynard.

What is the name of the book and when was it published?

You Can Do Anything. Published in 2021

What’s the book’s first line?

Last night I had a dream of all the things I could be: a pilot, a lawyer, and a captain at sea.

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

The book is about a girl who dreams big about all the career options possible. Her mother tells her about the past and how careers for women were limited. The intent of this book is to demonstrate that not only can you choose any career regardless of gender, but you can be more than one thing. Her brother demonstrates this in her dream as he is a dancer, a nurse and a vet at the zoo.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

I was looking for a book to read to my daughter to inspire her. She sees her mum do many things such as teaching at university, manage a team in the Air Force and fly planes, as well as studying to complete a PhD. I couldn’t find a book at her age group (3yrs) that portrayed this message in a way she could grasp. So, I decided to write it.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

Parents, caregivers, teachers, librarians and the like should read this book to young children to inspire imagination and remove potential, societal imposed limitations.

When did you first decide to become an author?

I didn’t really decide to be an author for being an author’s sake. Rather I wanted a book for my daughter that I felt was a gap in early childhood literature.

Is this the first book you’ve written?

Yes.

What do you do for work when you’re not writing?

I’m an aviation safety investigator who specializes in human factors. I work for the Royal Australian Air Force, do occasional consulting in this field, supervise and lecture in aviation at two Australian universities and volunteer on two aviation boards as a director.
