IR Approved Author Gabriel Veiga: “You won’t figure out who the murderer is. I dare you.”

Yesterday Is Not Yet Gone received a 4+ star review, making it an IndieReader Approved title.

Following find an interview with author Gabriel Veiga.

What is the name of the book and when was it published?

Yesterday Is Not Yet Gone and it was published in May 2020.

What’s the book’s first line?

“Before the tragedy happened, young Bulgarian couple Marko and Lilyana Kovachev had one dream: to move to the United States of America.”

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

Ever wondered what a Lethal Weapon with women would look like? Or David’s Fincher’s Seven? My book is just that. In Yesterday Is Not Yet Gone, two badass female detectives investigate a series of murders and they start hunting down a serial killer whom they are naming the Executioner. They start putting the puzzle pieces together and quickly figure out that the murders are not only connected but
they are also linked to an enigmatic past.

The novel is full of twists and turns and it becomes a story that involves revenge and the strong desire for justice. It also explores the themes of high school bullying, feminism, racism and, friendship and love.

For fans of James Patterson, Gillian Flynn, Agatha Christie and Stieg Larson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

I was raised by women and grew up as a feminist. I loved Lethal Weapon, Seven and other buddy cop movies and TV Shows growing up but never saw any women in those roles. And when there was a woman, there was always a man with her. It was never two female detectives that were buddy cops in the story, just like Riggs and Murtaugh.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

You want to escape the real world and you want to read a really great story that has heart and humanity in it. It’s a page-turner with great characters that you will become attached to and it has a fantastic twist. You won’t figure out who the murderer is. I dare you.

What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?

There are two main characters in my story: Judy and Charlotte. Judy is a retired NYPD detective and Charlotte is a twenty-two year old woman who wants to become a detective really badly. They couldn’t be more opposite. One wants to run away from the police profession and the other only wants to be cop. Yet, when they come together and put their minds at work, they are the best team ever. Charlotte reminds me of myself, I want what I want and I will stop at nothing. She has grit and solid ambition. She’s also reckless, which I can be sometimes.

Is this the first book you’ve written?

Yes.

How much time do you generally spend on your writing?
2-3 hours every day. I wake up at 5:30 every morning to write.

Which writer, living or dead, do you most admire?

Stephen King, 1000%.

Which book do you wish you could have written?

The Harry Potter books.
