Following find an interview with author Tracie Frank Mayer.
What is the name of the book and when was it published?
Incompatible with Nature–A Mother’s Story, published October 2016
What’s the book’s first line?
“Marc had been relatively quiet lying upon the hard flat surface of the examination table, the two snaps on his undershirt open, exposing his tender stomach and tiny chest.”
What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.
A young black American woman falls in love with a German man, moves to his country, bears his child – a boy diagnosed with a rare form of congenital heart disease. Not understanding the language and against all odds, she fights to keep him alive.
What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
I didn’t intend on writing this book. It evolved from the notes I began taking when my baby, just days old was admitted to the hospital. Because I didn’t understand the language and by no means understood the medical situation, my notes were the only way I could keep track of what was happening with him. One day it dawned on me that what I was going through was so extraordinary and demanded such strength from me that I thought I must write my story in the hopes that I can inspire someone else to never give up in facing his or her battle with adversity.
What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?
Well, I am the main character in my story. The most distinctive thing about the main character is that she is courageous and tenacious.
What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
We need these kind of stories more than ever today! The very thought of dealing with certain problems and overcoming hurdles is enough to make us want to give up before we even start. So the main reason someone should read my story is to get my message and apply it to his or her own life and that is: never give up. We can defy adversity. We can develop our ability to be resilient in the storm.
Incompatible with Nature–A Mother’s Story is my first book.
