When a young married couple struggles with imposter syndrome and newfound special powers, more than just their marriage is on the line.

Miller has a haunted past. His father is murdered and his mother locked away in an insane asylum. His wife, Evelyn, has problems of her own. As their marriage begins to fall apart, Miller cannot shake the feeling that another person—or being—has replaced his wife. Evelyn, meanwhile, discovers a voice inside her head and special powers. Their dispute continues to flare until one night Miller has had enough and ties his wife to a chair…

Chilling and exciting, SWITCH is a must-read treat. The plot twists and turns as more and more information about Miller and Evelyn’s past is revealed. In a risky move, the story is told non-chronologically. One section Evelyn might be tied in the kitchen, the next about how the couple met or about one of their childhoods. This style is a bit confusing at first, but astute readers will be rewarded with a story that, as a consequence of jumping around, never once lulls. The two main characters are both realistic, complex. Both have sympathetic qualities; both do things that would not be out of place in a horror movie. Some of the side characters are one dimensional, but the narrative rarely focuses on them and they more than fulfill their purposes in the story. Literary-minded readers will also be pleased that the author is quite a wordsmith. His descriptions are powerful and the book, especially as it nears its unsettling conclusion, shines as a result. If SWITCH has any problems, they are that some scenes are not as fleshed out as they should be and that the timeline could have been a little more clear, but these are small quibbles in an otherwise spectacular novel.

Thrilling, both psychologically and in terms of action, and offering plenty of food for thought, SWITCH is a stunning, unpredictable read.
