IR VERDICT:
When Kristin Collier’s husband transitions to female in 2005, Kristin’s role as wife, mother, and homemaker is radically changed. The book spans a decade of their family’s transition and is told through short chapters, poems, letters, and dreams. The unconventional structure can sometimes distract from the main thread, but HOUSEWIFE is a beautiful meditation on the meaning of family and gender roles and a thoughtful education in gender identity disorder for the families and friends of transitioning individuals.
