If You Want to Write by Brenda Ueland
How old were you when you read it?
Thirty six or so.
What character did you most identify with?
It’s non fiction. No fiction book has “changed my life.”
What was your favorite part?
The gist of this book is that you should listen to naysayers, critics, and bozos—including the ones in your head. If you want to write, write. Cut the BS and get going.
Did you read it more than once?
Yes.
It gave me the confidence to write my first book. I’ve now written thirteen. It also gave me the confidence to try many new things and paths.
Did you pass it on to anyone?
Physically, it’s somewhere in my house, but I have told tens of thousands of people to read it.
If you could change places with a character of fiction for one day, who would it be?
Jack Reacher, the Lee Child character.
Rogue Lawyer by John Grisham
