Nowhere Safe

This is a fun read, and a very tasty piece of mind candy. If you enjoy thrills of all sorts, suspenseful and romantic, and want something to keep you happily entertained for an hour or a few, this is a great book for you.
Nowhere Safe is a thriller and a romance, covering the efforts of Josh Robertson, covert operative, and his team to uncover a DEA mole, avert a deadly drug deal/terrorist plot, and to avenge the death of a woman he had come very close to loving.

Josh is assigned to get close to and extract information from the sister of a potential suspect (or perhaps a suspect herself?), one Trish Jackson. However, the moment he meets Trish, sparks start to fly between them, and their relationship quickly gets far deeper than is safe for either. Meanwhile, Trish, a recovering alcoholic, is dealing with a terrifying stalker who calls himself – or is it herself? – the Chessmaster, and who threatens the lives of everyone she cares about. Can Josh protect her, find the mole he seeks, and deal with the danger she poses to his heart as well?

Nowhere Safe is a lively and action-packed book, full of energy, danger, and romance. The love story is tender, steamy, erotic, and full of electricity, and the action plot will satisfy the reader’s thirst for danger. The characters are likeable, real, and fully fleshed-out, with backstories that do not distract from the action but provide real motivation for what they do and how they think.

The plot moves quickly, and is full of surprises that keep the reader’s interest and attention – the suspense never dies down until the very end. Minor characters add color and life to the tale, without distracting from the core relationship at its heart.

The book could improve with some editing – the typos and grammatical errors (use of “like” in place of “as,” for example) are minor but noticeable, particularly near the end of the book. There are a few plot points which feel a bit contrived, as though put in just for the sake of an obstacle to the romantic plot, when in fact the main obstacle is quite sufficient (if rather easily resolved in the end).

However, this is a fun read, and a very tasty piece of mind candy. If you enjoy thrills of all sorts, suspenseful and romantic, and want something to keep you happily entertained for an hour or a few, this is a great book for you.
