THE JOURNEY FROM POOR PROCRASTINATOR TO INVESTED MILLENNIAL is a self-help guide for millennials to stop avoiding their money problems and start investing in their financial futures.

Aimed at Millennials (the generation of people born between 1980 and 2000), THE JOURNEY FROM POOR PROCRASTINATOR TO INVESTED MILLENNIAL is a financial guide that is easy to comprehend and easy to follow. The suggestions aren’t groundbreaking, but for recent college graduates or young people who have been procrastinating financial literacy for too long, the book will be a useful wake-up call to action. The author, a millennial himself, wrote the book after losing his fortune on risky investing, using the wisdom he gained through his missteps. But the lessons of the book will be most rewarding to those who are doing no financial planning, rather than those who are actively taking risks with their money. To start, the book identifies the behaviors of “poor procrastinators,” those who are struggling financially due to avoidance and procrastination, and then offers simple paths to follow to get to the “invested millennial” stage – a person who has invested in themselves, their money, and their future. “You need to learn to think of yourself as a product that needs constant improvements, to remain relevant in the market.” At its most basic, the book can be summed up by a paraphrasing of Kho’s: be proactive, not reactive.

The advice on investing in stocks, automating everything, and the concept of “time value of money” will be helpful for those completely in the dark about finances. And Kho writes in a straightforward style, with numerous examples, that doesn’t make readers feel bad for not knowing a concept already and instead makes them want to learn more. The chapter titled “How Much Does It Cost You?,” on how to calculate how much your time is worth and how to plan for purchases, is particularly eye-opening. But Kho’s suggestions—make more than you spend; cook food at home—will be reductively simple to those with some positive experience with money. There are also a number of grammatical errors and some suggestions feel tossed off.

For Millennial readers with no clue about money, THE JOURNEY FROM POOR PROCRASTINATOR TO INVESTED MILLENNIAL is a practical, approachable guidebook to the basics of getting your head out of the sand and entering into a financially secure future.
