RETURN TO TAYLOR’S CROSSING

IR VERDICT:

RETURN TO TAYLOR’S CROSSING is a timely work of fiction exploring how racial violence and hatred shakes a small Southern town. The book’s use of different perspectives and time jumps from 1959 to 2009 illustrate that a community can’t learn and move on from past hurts without dark truths finally coming to light. Author Janie Dempsey Watts’ knowledge of the setting allows her to build a rich cast of characters, both black and white, as well as to seamlessly weave in criticisms of the town’s culture.
