IRDA stciker

I am Ed was the winner in the New Adult category of the 2016 IndieReader Discovery Awards, where undiscovered talent meets people with the power to make a difference.

Following find an interview with author R.A. Akerlund.

What is the name of the book and when was it published?

The book is called I am Ed and it was published two months ago on Createspace.

What’s the book’s first line?

After my sixteenth birthday, on the seventh of august 1988, I had enough of waiting to grow up. I was tall enough to pass for 18 and I already heard about a job in a supermarket stacking shelves.

What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.

I am Ed is a book about relationships and dreams. It’s about loss and how sometimes loosing a loved one makes changes that makes life better. How that can make us feel guilty and self destructive. How love and family means everything. And finally, how life can change without warning and break our hearts, just like that.

What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?

The book is pure fiction but I have taken inspiration from people and events in my own life. I was a singer for many years and have three siblings.

I lost my father so I know how grief feels.  The stories in my own life and Ed’s are by no means parallel but there are experiences to draw from as well as my vivid imagination that I experience on a daily basis.

What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?

I think, or I hope that this book is a page turner. I am proud of that, I think the story is gripping. Its my first novel and it is not perfect (what is?), but I think its a great plot and the characters are likeable. So far, readers have enjoyed it from all walks of life so I think it would not be a waste of time for anyone to read my humble debut. I am so pleased to have finished and written a book and am currently engrossed in my next novel. Thanks to anyone who has taken the time. Much appreciated!
