Tova and Stefan are Sophistan beings, representative of a higher evolutionary species who, in Part 1 of the series, were told of their origin as well as their destiny. Unfortunately, 21st Century Earth is still considered primitive and hostile to life forms other than humans. The Sophistan concern is that their powers would set them apart from the general population of Earth and they would be killed by humans. The focus of this book is the reconciliation of the various groups of Sophistan creation with Tova and Stefan. Once this is accomplished, Tova and the Sophistans reanimate Stefan and their mentor, Elof. Reanimation grants additional powers, especially telepathic communications, as well as the realization that Stefan has the power to cause immense destruction. As Stefan and Tova prepare to return to Earth, they are reminded of the danger from both the human population as well as the threat of alien invasion of the planet.
Part 2 of this story seamlessly continues the tale of two “special” children destined to bring humanity to its next step in evolution. The font and color changes in the text are used as well in this part of the story but there is no explanation for it as there was in Part 1. Instead, the author uses brief explanations as to what is going on so there is no loss to the continuity of action or confusion with the plot. Although the language seems somewhat stilted, it is expected when dealing with beings whose main method of communications is telepathic. There are several “risings” in the second half of the book that may seem repetitious. After the last one, it becomes obvious that these risings are training for Stefan and Tova as they prepare to return to their home planet, Earth. The author respects his readers enough to allow them to come to this conclusion on their own rather than giving an involved explanation it in the narrative. There are several secrets held by various characters that are unresolved, especially those held by Tova and Stefan, which seem to be part of the plot for Part 3 of the story.
THE SAESHELL BOOK OF TIME: PART 2 is a continuation of the story of how the human race moves to a higher evolutionary plane by the intervention of the Sophistans. It is an interesting take on what it means to be human and where we as a species may be headed.
