Between the stone walls of Knox Castle lies many secrets—some even deadly. For Kaye, the boy knight, and his young friends, Reggie and Beau, the castle, along with the young Queen Vianne provides a new home and a promising future.

However, the future seems grim when the brave friends learn the safety of the castle is in jeopardy.  Knox owes a lot of money to the neighboring kingdom of Eldridge. If the debt remains unpaid, it could mean impending war.  But the death of the King left the treasury mysteriously empty and a secret treasure of vast proportions undiscovered.

Despite his young age, Kaye has managed to drum up an ensemble of enemies within the knighthood who are determined to cast out our young hero and ensure he never returns.  Will they succeed? Or will Kaye and his friends unearth the clues buried within the castle depths in time to save themselves, the kingdom, and from those vowing to destroy all that Kaye values in life?  The answers lay hidden amid a beloved falcon’s flight and things that go bump in the night.

THE LOST CASTLE TREASURE (SIR KAYE THE BOY KNIGHT) is the latest literary effort is the sequel to Winn’s first book, The Knighting of Sir Kaye.  The setting for the story is rather haphazardly placed within Medieval times, but the fact that the historical accuracy lacks strength and smacks a tad of political simplicity doesn’t detract from the story itself. Most young readers appreciate a good mystery, regardless of its setting.  In that sense, Winn delivers a satisfying adventure for his young readers.

One part that does warrant some exploration is the tone in the prologue. This brief account prepares the reader for a potentially intense rumpus with revenge that never fully transpires, by her hand, as part of the resolution. Could it be the old woman’s promise of personal redemption is fodder for another edition?  As with our young knight, Kaye, and his friends, this mysterious woman also has a story to tell. By working together, this new plot could play host to another tantalizing adventure.

THE LOST CASTLE TREASURE is an endearing adventure illustrating the timeless value of friendship, loyalty, and never underestimating the power of one.
