Meet Your 2013 IRDA Winners and Buy Their Books!

Today at Book Expo America (BEA), a trade show taking place in New York City, Hugh Howey, bestselling indie author of WOOL (and all around great guy) and Amy Edelman, founder of IndieReader, announced the winners of the 2013 “IndieReader Discovery Awards”.

The judges on the IRDA panel included top people in all areas of the publishing industry, in concert with IndieReader’s trusty reviewers. Judging was based on the quality of writing and the originality of the story. There was a first, second and third place winner in each of the fiction and non-fiction categories, in addition to winners in various sub-categories, indicating that each book has received at least a 4-5 star review (out of 5 stars).

Without further ado, IndieReaders, meet this year’s winners!

Thank you so much for celebrating and supporting the work of Indie authors! I’m still in shock (and so honored) that my book How to Spread Sanity on a Cracker won in the Gift/Holiday/Specialty category.

Wickedly Sisters went to NYC and had the time of their lives. Meeting with Amy and all the other winners of the IndieReader Discovery Awards was truly an event we will always remember. Spoon and the Moon began as a way to make Margaret laugh while she was fighting a deadly disease, and it worked! (If you would like to know more about that journey you can find us on the Huffington Post.) To have our book recognized at this level is inspiring and we appreciate all of the judges who took the time to read our work. We are delighted and still a bit giddy from this award, thanks to all who made this possible!
    Amy, you’re the best!

I wish to thank Amy Edelman and the IndieReader Discovery Award program for helping independently published authors move along on their journey to recognition. The awards are a great way of letting us know that our work is worth something, and to help our books be better known through extensive press releases. I was especially pleased for the recognition of a book on Special Needs, a genre that is often overlooked.
