THE LOVER’S PORTRAIT

IR VERDICT:

A mystery that is enriched with historical and cultural detail will always be more interesting than a straightforward thriller and, while THE LOVER’S PORTRAIT is sometimes weakened by lackluster prose, it is well worth reading for what the main character discovers—not just about the portrait mentioned in the title, but also the sobering dangers of Amsterdam during World War II.
