Lou Kilzer on his Book “Fatal Redemption”

IRDA stcikerFatal Redemption was the winner in the Mystery category of the 2015 IndieReader Discovery Awards, where undiscovered talent meets people with the power to make a difference.

Following find an interview with author Lou Kilzer.

What’s the name of the book?

Fatal Redemption, the first in the Sally Will Series, published 2014.

What’s the book’s first line?

“Mr. Wood cut his lights and aimed the SUV down the last one hundred yards of rutted blacktop. He stopped near a junkyard fence, got out, stretched, lit a cigarette. Considered.”

What’s the book about?

Sally Will is a young, hyper-aggressive investigative reporter for the Chicago Tribune who smokes black cigars, drinks too much and suffers periodic panic attacks. Based in Denver, she catches the story of a lifetime – she is on the trail of a man who wants to become the most successful hitman in the world. In this roller-coaster mystery thriller, Sally must overcome the Russian Mafyia and its green-eyed assassin Katya, the Chicago mob and the mystery killer Mr. Wood. Sally makes mistakes, she draws wrong conclusions, but with the help of her lover, former FBI agent Lou Elliott, Sally confronts Mr. Wood head on.

What inspired you to write the book?

Sally Will is like many of my investigative reporter friends, eager, faulty and human. But these friends have never been confronted with a story like this. This is how I imagine one of my favorite friends would act.

What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character?

A small town Wyoming girl makes it into the big times. She carries an inferiority complex that she hides, and the ghost of a father she loved, but who committed suicide. She is actually brilliant, but does not fully realize that. Mark and I patterned this from a compilation of our creative friends.

Why should someone read this book?

Because it is entertaining on the surface, and soul searching below. A page-turner.
