Kara is under surveillance by the military because of Rampant, a tactical video game that she develops. While Rampant is not a great commercial seller, the Air Force replicates this powerful game into their training program. Additionally, they corner Kara into a position where she has no choice but to work for them in Area 51. Suddenly catapulted into this military environ, Kara has no choice but to help them prepare for the impending attacks from none other than aliens.
Rising sci-fi author R. L. Akers spins a story that appears more real than fiction. Akers’ well-researched third person narrative is replete with highly developed characters set within the United States during 2014 and 2015. Divided into three sections and designed in a data-entry format, Akers keeps his storyline constantly fluid by alternating between character scenes filled with everything military (both good and bad), back stories, and subplots that are laced with a bit of romance and comedy amid alien attacks and mysterious figures bent on sabotage.
Akers’ characters are indeed a complicated lot. The least complicated is Kara. Earmarked as the protagonist, Kara is a dynamic character since she has no prior military history and has to constantly learn along the way – and learn she does! The rest of the cast leaves readers unnerved and wondering whether or not they are to be trusted. Most prominent is General Grant, who is a softie underneath his hardened persona.
The first book in The Gryphens Duology, PROMETHEUS REBOUND is a fast paced tale of unsuspected twists and turns that is bound to be a favorite among sci-fi readers.
