The only constant in Summer’s life is that she never stays in one place for long. As a troubled orphan, Summer has been transferred from school to school, without making any lasting relationships—until she’s sent packing from Los Angeles to a secluded boarding school in Idaho. Upon arrival, she feels a magical connection with the environment surrounding her and soon discovers a school of witchlings divided by Light and Dark—including twin brothers, Beck and Decker. Summer is immediately attracted to Beck, but she also feels an inexplicable connection with Decker, even if she’s apprehensive to be around him. While developing friendships, understanding how to control her witchling powers, and experiencing new love, Summer is tested to see if she will stay on the path of Light or cross to the Dark side.
DARK SUMMER is the first book in the ‘Witchling Trilogy’. Although the reader is left with some unanswered questions to seemingly forgotten details (which could hopefully be addressed in the following books), Dark Summer is a spellbinding story and leaves the reader anticipating the next book.
Author Lizzy Ford constructs a fascinating world as she weaves bits of Light and Dark history throughout the book. The characters are convincing and relatable, while the plot continues to be engaging and unpredictable. DARK SUMMER is a captivating paranormal romance for young adults.
