“The Sandman” by Neil Gaiman (which I realize is actually a collection of books, but I think it should still count).
How old were you when you read it/them?
(I was in my early 20′s and felt a bit lost and alone…like I’d never fit in.)
What character did you most identify with?
Delirium. She’s light and funny and nice most of the time but deep down she’s broken and sad and angry.
What was your favorite part?
A quote from the book that read “YOU DON’T HAVE TO STAY ANYWHERE FOREVER.” I was suffering from depression at the time and I think it gave me the hope I needed.
Did you read it more than once?
So, so, so many times.
Why/How did it affect you?
It was the first time I read a book where I could actually feel my mind shifting and changing in fascinating ways. It gave me such a bigger perspective on life, religion, death, emotion.
Timothy from Ray Bradbury’s “From the Dust Returned“.
What are you reading now?
Simon Pegg’s “Nerd Do Well“.
