1. What is the name of the book and when was it published?
Pandora’s Key – Book One – The Key Trilogy. Published Nov. 2011
2. What’s the book’s first line?
Thousands of years ago the Gods and Goddesses of Mount Olympus created the first woman and named her Pandora.
3. What’s the book about? Give us the “pitch”.
When everything you believed about yourself is a lie, how do you unlock the truth…
Evangeline Theopolis has nightmares about the violent deaths of women she has never met. Her single mother, Olivia, suffers delusions she can’t hide. And Malledy, a brilliant young man, may have a disease that will leave him paralyzed and insane. Their lives are about to collide.
On Evangeline’s 16th birthday her mother gives her a necklace with an antique key charm—a family heirloom, though no one knows what the key unlocks.
Everything changes. Her mom is hospitalized. Her godmother attempts murder. An ancient Order tries to kill Evangeline, and a lethal sect to kidnap her.
Nothing makes sense—especially Evangeline’s own face, which has morphed from geeky to eerily stunning; the ancient key that feels strangely alive against her skin; and the magical abilities she begins to possess.
Evangeline must use her wits and supernatural powers to fight her deadly adversaries and discover her true identity. But can she accept who she really is and save the world?
4. What inspired you to write the book? A particular person? An event?
I’ve always LOVED Greek mythology – especially the story of Pandora. I wanted to recreate that myth in a modern setting and give it a twist. What if, instead of being the downfall of mankind, Pandora actually saved the world from total destruction? And what if her descendants still bore that responsibility… but didn’t know it?
5. What’s the most distinctive thing about the main character? Who-real or fictional-would you say the character reminds you of?
Evangeline’s most distinctive characteristic is the fact that she’s up to the task of becoming a hero in her own life’s story. I chose her name because I loved Evangeline Lily’s character on the TV show LOST. That character faced an unbearable situation and despite her flaws and weaknesses she constantly dug deep and became more than she believed she could be. That’s Evangeline – she’s more than she ever imagined and her journey has only just begun…
6. What’s the main reason someone should really read this book?
If you love a complex plot that will keep you guessing; if you want a heroine who has a unique voice; if you love mythology and magical realism; and if you’re looking for an edge-of-your-seat ride… then read Pandora’s Key!
