Dangerous Past is a fast moving, intense plot-driven thriller not to be taken lightly. This is one of those stories you don’t want to put down, and when the end comes you are torn between being relieved and disappointed that it has ended.
When a bomb is planted in the commercial plane that Frank Braden is flying, almost blowing up nearly 100 passengers, it is the beginning of the end of his career and life as he knows it. To add fuel to the plot, whoever is out to get Frank is making it appear as if Frank is on a suicide mission. Terminated from his pilot job, fearful of his life and his wife Nicole’s, Frank is determined to set out on a strategic mission to find the culprit who is trying to desecrate his existence.
In order to take on such a mission Frank must take a mental and painful trip back to his days spent in Vietnam, a time which he has not shared with Nicole. He knows that he may have made some costly mistakes in Vietnam, and retelling the story is an arduous task which may open secrets he would much rather leave alone.
From the FBI to the CIA, there are any number of past colleagues who could be out to get Frank. But once he reconnects with a key player, Lan, the puzzle is solved, revealing General Fenton as the officer holding the grudge and the power to take Frank’s life.
Dangerous Past plays out like a mission impossible, with contracted hit men trying to kill Frank, kidnapping Nicole, and ordering Frank to play by Fenton’s rules. The stark reality is that Fenton intends to end their lives no matter what. Frank stands determined to ruin Fenton by exposing him for past crimes, but it is going to take much more to get him out of his life for good. Racing against a crazy man with resources he had not anticipated, Frank remains fearless to the end.
Ebbers writes with quickness, brilliantly merging plot and dialogue. Dangerous Past is an excitingly believable journey, worth staying up all night reading.
