Yes, it’s true (though not the hair gel part). Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, actually paid Snooki to write a book.
Indie authors take note…the girl might not have much of a brain, but she does have one helluva platform. Publisher’s take note…that doesn’t necessarily translate into sales… (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/loads-promotion-snookis-book-low-sales-76611 )

According to Bookscan numbers, since her Jan. 4 release, I have sold more books than Snooki as an indie. Her platform is build in virtual reality, not reality.
